2 more elephants participate in the friendly tourism model without elephant riding (24/03/2023, 09:52)

Animals Asia has just received 2 domestic elephants from Buon Don and Lak districts to participate in a model of eco-friendly tourism without elephant riding  in Yok Don National Park.

Two domestic elephants participating in the Program to promote Elephant Friendly Tourism – No Elephant Rides and Improve the Welfare of Domestic Elephants in Dak Lak Province sponsored by Animals Asia, are Ta Nuon and Y Khun. The female elephant Ta Nuon is about 40 years old. As a child, she lived in Buon Don, then were sold to Gia Lai province to transport cassava and rice. In 2008, the elephant returned to Buon Don and has been with Mr. Y Khu's family ever since. The male elephant Y Khun, 45 years old, is managed by Van Long Ecotourism Company, from Lak district, about 60 km from Yok Don National Park.

 Elephants are free to move around and feed in the forest

In Dak Lak province, Animals Asia has directly supported 12 domestic elephants, of which 8 are participating in the elephant-friendly tourism model in Yok Don National Park. When participating in this tourism model, elephants no longer have to carry tourists, instead are free to move around and feed in the old forest of Yok Don National Park. The project also helps elephants find their favorite food source, improve their health. Coming to the elephant-friendly tourism model, tourists will be able to see elephants, learn about elephant behaviors in the wild and mingle with the beautiful nature of Yok Don National Park.

According to statistics, the whole province currently has 37 domestic elephants, mainly in 2 districts of Buon Don and Lak, of which are 20 female elephants and 17 male elephants.
