4th Congress of Ethnic Minorities of Buon Ho Town in 2024 (28/06/2024, 08:25)

On June 25-26, Buon Ho Town held the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minorities in 2024.

Attending the Congress were Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Y Bier Nie; Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thien Van; representatives of relevant departments, agencies, and 184 outstanding delegates representing over 31,000 ethnic minorities across the town.

Congress Attendees

Buon Ho Town has 12 administrative units, including 7 wards and 5 communes, with 123 villages, hamlets, and residential groups. Among these, 8 wards and communes are inhabited by ethnic minorities, with 44 ethnic minority villages and hamlets, predominantly Ede, Nung, and Tay people.

Under the resolution of the 3rd Congress of Ethnic Minorities, the town has achieved notable results in ethnic affairs and implementing ethnic policies, contributing to economic-social development and national defense-security. The average economic growth rate reached 9.34% during the period; investment in economic and social infrastructure has been prioritized. Currently, 100% of the roads connecting the town to wards and communes are paved; 100% of rural residents in planned areas have access to electricity; 98% of urban residents have access to clean, sanitary water; 100% of wards and communes meet national health standards; and 76% of ethnic minorities are covered by health insurance.

From 2019-2024, the town organized 20 job counseling sessions and labor export orientations for 2,820 people, of which about 1,500 were ethnic minorities. Additionally, 27 vocational training classes were held for 891 rural ethnic minority laborers from poor and near-poor households. By the end of 2023, the town had 662 poor households, accounting for 2.49% of the total population (the poverty rate among ethnic minorities reduced to 5.19%).

The National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas has been actively implemented. From 2022-2024, the town received over 19.6 billion VND for infrastructure projects in ethnic minority villages, providing housing, land for production, drinking water, and vocational training for youth in these areas.

Efforts have been made to preserve and promote cultural heritage, strengthen the political system, and develop a capable ethnic minority cadre. The Congress also set goals for the 2024-2029 period, focusing on achieving an average annual production value growth rate of over 10%; reducing the poverty rate among ethnic minorities by 0.6% annually, aiming to lower it to 2.19% by 2029; improving living standards; enhancing education and healthcare; preserving and developing cultural values; and building a qualified local ethnic minority cadre to meet local demands. Furthermore, it aims to strengthen the grassroots political system, maintain security and social order in ethnic minority areas.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Thien Van urged local authorities and ethnic communities to continue promoting unity and improving living standards for ethnic minorities. He emphasized the importance of planning, training, and building a capable ethnic minority cadre and innovating ethnic policy implementation to meet new demands.

He also highlighted the role of the political system in economic-social development and security in remote, vulnerable areas, mobilizing resources to integrate ethnic minority areas into the town’s overall development.

The Congress elected 7 official delegates and 1 alternate delegate to the 4th Provincial Ethnic Minorities Congress.

Awards for Collectives and Individuals

On this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 1 collective and 2 individuals; the Provincial Ethnic Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 1 collective and 2 individuals; and Buon Ho Town People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 9 collectives and 16 individuals for their outstanding achievements in socio-economic development and national defense-security in ethnic minority areas from 2019-2024.
