FAO donates VND 14.4 billion for restoration of supporting livelihoods for rural community affected by drought at the Central Highlands. (26/10/2016, 08:02)

On October 21st, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and ActionAid Vietnam Organization (AAV) had a working session on the project “Restoration of food security and supporting livelihood for rural community affected by drought at the Central Highlands” in order to consult and deploy the project in the Central Highlands region. Mr. Nguyen Thai Anh –FAO Coordinator in Viet Nam as well as representatives of Departments, sectors, communal People’s Committee of Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Gia Lai provinces participated in the meeting.


Overview of the session

The emergency project “Restoration of food security and supporting livelihood for rural community affected by drought at the Central Highlands” is funded by FAO and implemented in three provinces of Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Dak Nong. It will be carried out from October, 2016 to May, 2017 with total cost of VND 14.4 billion. Particularly, in Dak Lak, the project will support Ea Sup and Krong Bong districts with total cost of VND 5 billion with beneficiary of 1,745 households.

The project will supply cash, vouchers and agricultural materials to promote production, ensure food security and improve livelihood for farmers through three forms, including: vouchers to bargain agricultural inputs, cash and plastic buckets. Particularly, in Krong Bong district, the project will support three communes of Hoa Phong, Dang Kang, Khue Ngoc Dien with its total cost of over VND 2.3 billion with beneficiary of 987 households. And in Ea Sup district, beneficiary of 758 households in Ea Roc commune will be funded by the project with total cost of over VND 2.7 billion. 

At the working session, the representatives of beneficiary localities and donators discussed on measures to deploy the project as well as define difficulties in process of the project’s beneficiary survey. The localities suggested FAO paying attention to expanding criteria for selecting beneficiary of households, instructing the vouchers as well as developing an agricultural materials network in each commune to facilitate resident’s transaction. FAO’s representatives recorded localities’ opinions and committed that FAO will provide suitable solutions for each locality in order to create more favorable conditions so that the provinces can approach the project with its highest effectiveness.
