Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc paid a visit to the Central Highlands Steering Committee in Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak on June 19. Attending the meeting were leaders of the Government Office, Ministries, sectors, Deputy Head of the Central Highlands Steering Committee Tran Viet Hung, Secretary of Provincial Party Committee Eban Y Phu, Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee cum Chairman of Provincial People’s Council Y Bier Nie, Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee cum Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee Pham Ngoc Nghi, and representatives of the Central Highlands Steering Committee.
Speaking at the working session, Mr. Tran Viet Hung reported the Central Highlands Steering Committee’s activities over the past time to PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the Government’s delegation. The Central Highlands Steering Committee has over 50 officers, civil servants including 06 army officers who were on secondment to the Steering Committee; 41 of total officers, civil servants were Party members.
In recent time, the Steering Committee has consolidated its apparatus, organizations in discipline, depth. The Steering Committee has strengthened monitoring, inspection and supervision on important aspects, such as: hydropower development, transport infrastructure development, coordinating with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in drought forecast in the Central Highlands.

The Central Highlands Steering Committee has collaborated with Ministries and sectors to organize three conferences on investment promotion in the region; in collaboration with Vietnam Bank for Social Policies for effectively and efficiently implementing policy credit programs, contributing to poverty alleviation. Moreover, the Steering Committee has coordinated with the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and Ministry of Education and Training to effectively implement the project for vocational training for rural workers, contributing to improving quality of the labour force in the region.

Next time, the Steering Committee will continuously focus on implementing following key tasks: developing the Central Highlands’ infrastructure; enhancing the connections between regions, stimulating main products of the region, especially agricultural products; effectively implementing innovation policies, improving the efficiency of State-owned agriculture and forest enterprises. The Steering Committee has also suggested the Government supplement small irrigation dams to help communities adapt to climate change and drought situation. The Government should issue a new Decision to replace Decision No. 1951/QD-TTg dated November 02, 2011 on development of education, training and vocational training in Central Highlands provinces and mountainous districts of provinces bordering on the Central Highlands in the 2011- 2015 period.

Speaking at the working session, The Prime Minister highly appreciated the Steering Committee’s activities in the recent time that contributed to socio-economic development and national defense and security maintenance in the region. He suggested the Steering Committee pay attention to solve related-land problems in order to create good conditions for affected persons to restore and stabilize their livelihood. The renovation of state agriculture and forestry enterprises should be effectively implemented, in collaboration with relevant Ministries, sectors and localities. The promotion of measures to fight against the hostile force’s activities (ex. FULRO) should be coupled with the process of building, consolidating and developing the political system at the grassroots level; paying attention to the matter with water for agriculture and daily life, proposing solutions for reforestation; promoting solidarity tradition and cooperation with ministries, central sectors, provinces in the region to transform potentials of the region into development momentum, renew integration mechanism, enhance investment promotion as well as take advantage of external resources for socio-economic development in the Central Highlands.
