The durian growing area of Krong Pac District is about 4,000 hectares, accounting for 1/3 of the durian growing area of Dak Lak Province. The area of business durian is more than 2,000 hectares with an average output of 45,000 -50,000 tons of fresh durian. Durian has become a staple crop that brings the main source of income for local people and contributed to local economic development. The fact that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development signed a Protocol with the General Administration of Customs of China to officially export Vietnamese durians to the Chinese market is a good sign for durian growers in Krong Pac District in particular and in Viet Nam in general.

“In the past, the durian growers of Krong Pac District only sold raw durian fruit, so the economic value was very low. Therefore, the District wants to organize the durian festival to promote our specialties. In addition, through the festival, we want to show that we are also ready to fully prepare all conditions for export on this occasion when Viet Nam and China signed a protocol to officially export durian. This is also an advantage of the District", said Ms. Trinh

Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Dinh Xuan Dieu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Krong Pac District and Head of the Organization Board of the Durian Festival in Krong Pac District, said that this is the first time Krong Pac has organized the durian festival. The festival is an opportunity to promote the brand and orient farmers to produce safe and sustainable durian in order to meet the strict requirements of the official export market. Through this festival, the District aims to promote the image of the homeland, people and economic potential of Krong Pac District to tourists, thereby introducing specific products of the District and contributing to promoting economic development and tourism in the District. The festival also aims to honor the economic values from high quality specialty trees, especially durian, as well as create trade opportunities between growers, producers of fruit products and consumers. The District is coordinating with departments, branches and enterprises to launch deep-processed products from durian and preparing a project to attract enterprises to invest in agricultural product processing factories.

At the press conference, representatives of news agencies and press asked many questions to find out specifically about the festival's programs, solutions for effective exploitation and management of the collective brand "Krong Pac Durian", and the work of ensuring food safety and hygiene for people and tourists during the festival.

In the harvest of 2021, despite difficulties in the context of the complicated COVID-19 epidemic, the District's output of durian still reached about 45,000 tons. In the total area of over 3,700 hectares of durian, there are nearly 600 hectares of durian from nearly 500 households that have been inspected, evaluated and granted VietGAP Certificate, and there are 730 hectares of durian that have been granted the growing area code by the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development).
