The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Dak Lak province has recently sent a request to the Plant Protection Department to seek support and plant quarantine for rambutan fruit in the local area for the 2023 crop.

As of now, other provinces have almost finished their rambutan harvest, leaving only Dak Lak with remaining rambutan fruit. Therefore, organizing plant quarantine for the province's rambutan exports is deemed reasonable. This measure will help tightly control the origin of the shipments, prevent cases of fraudulent use of cultivation areas and packaging codes.

Specifically, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Dak Lak province suggests that the Plant Protection Department assign its affiliated units to take charge, assign personnel, and provide specialized equipment to conduct plant quarantine and necessary procedures locally for the province's shipments in the 2023 crop. Due to the urgency, as Dak Lak is about to begin its harvest, the department requests the Plant Protection Department to pay attention and coordinate in completing all procedures and preparations before August 5.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Dak Lak province will take responsibility for arranging a working office and providing space for machinery and specialized equipment for the Plant Protection Department's task force during their mission in Dak Lak.

Previously, Mr. Vu Duc Con, Chairman of the Dak Lak Rambutan Association, had sent a document to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Dak Lak province, informing them of the request for support in the export procedure for the province's rambutan crop in 2023.

During the working session, the Plant Protection Department agreed to assign officers and provide specialized equipment to conduct plant quarantine and necessary procedures locally for Dak Lak's rambutan shipments. Regarding the establishment of a Plant Quarantine Station, as it requires the formation of an organizational structure, it has not been implemented yet. The Plant Protection Department will review and report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

According to the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection in Dak Lak province, the total rambutan area in 2022 was 22,458 hectares, accounting for 43.2% of the fruit tree area, increasing by 7,550 hectares compared to 2021, with a yield of 187,986 tons, up by 50,342 tons compared to 2021.

Currently, rambutan is a high-value economic crop compared to others, providing good income for rambutan growers. Therefore, the rambutan area and yield are increasing, and some large-scale cultivation areas have been established to meet the export demand.

Dak Lak has been approved for four cultivation area codes, with a total area of 1,819 hectares. Additionally, the province has 17 rambutan packaging facilities for export. It is worth noting that Dak Lak is evaluated as the largest area in the country, but only around 40% of the area is currently harvested.

By 2025, Dak Lak aims to maintain a stable rambutan area of over 22,000 hectares, with a yield of over 225,000 tons. The province will continue to expand and maintain production areas according to standards, with the percentage of cultivation area having a cultivation area code reaching over 20%.
